We stayed at the Iberostar Cozumel at the south end of the island.  I will go through each of the properties we saw in the order we saw them.

El Cozumeleno - All Inclusive, North of San Miguel, on Santa Pilar beach

I was very happy that we got to tour this property.  I have several clients who go to this hotel year after year.  I knew that the rooms had been remodeled last year but, it looks like the entire building was redone.  There was no hint of the properties true age (+25) from the exterior.  We had breakfast in the waterfront restaurant.  The buffet had a good selection and the service area was very clean.  The view was incredible.  The El Coz has all of your standard all-inclusive features and a few extras like room service and 18 hole miniature golf.  The children's center was large and had a bathroom with kid sized fixtures (very cute).  Children 12 and under stay and eat free with two adults at the El Coz.  Several room categories are offered.  There are large garden view rooms One of the pools at the El Cozumelenoin the original building.  Oceanview junior suites are located in the new section and huge deluxe oceanfront rooms are in the original building.  The oceanview rooms are my pick for the best to book because of their décor, size and cost.  The hotel also has a two bedroom/three bath Presidential Suite that must be booked separately.  My first comment is, "Wow!"  The suite takes up half of the upper level of the new building.  It sleeps 8 and goes for $1300 a night and it's worth it.  The beach was gorgeous.  The hotel is about a $5 taxi ride from San Miguel and close to the new golf course.

Paradisus Cozumel - All Inclusive, North of San Miguel, on the beach

This property sits on a two mile stretch of beach. It's great for swimming and there is excellent snorkeling in front of their sister property, the Sol Cabanas, next door. This hotel also has two sections, both are brightly painted.  The deluxe rooms have a garden view and are adequate.  The junior suites are in the tower on the 6th through the 12th floors and have ocean views.  They are large with nice furnishings and a balcony.  The Paradisus is a member of the country club so golf packages can also be booked for either room category.  In addition to the standard all-inclusive features 20 minutes of horseback riding is included. Children 12 and under stay free here.  It's about a $10 taxi ride into town

Plaza Las Glorias - European Plan, San Miguel, waterfront

This moderate property has long been popular with divers, who don't mind its man made beach.  They love it for its great location, huge rooms and laid back atmosphere.  The standard rooms are oceanview and have a large sitting area, a small refrigerator and a wet bar.  The on-site dive shop is the well respected, Aqua Safari.

Iberostar Cozumel - All Inclusive, southwestern coast, on the beach

Ah, home at last!  The Iberostar chain has made a good name for themselves with their properties in the Mayan Riviera (guest have exchange privileges).  This property was built late in 1999.  In keeping with Iberostar philosophy, as much of the natural state that can be is maintained.  The Grounds at Iberostar Cozumeleffect is incredible.  The rooms are located in  bungalows, scattered amid that jungle that covers most of the property in groups of eight or two.  The bungalows and different areas of the resort are connected by winding paths.  The rooms are a little on the small side, especially for Iberostar, but they are artfully decorated and the bathrooms are quite nice. All of the rooms have ceiling fans, a safe, a stocked minibar and hair dryers. Nearly all of them have a garden (or should I say jungle) view. What I really wanted to see at this property was the beach.  Since it opened I had gotten conflicting reports about it.  Here is my opinion.  It was ok, certainly not excellent.  Unfortunately the shore line is rocky.  Iberostar has laid down sand bags to make paths out to the sandy bottom though.  There is also a pier so, you could just walk out and go down the ladder.  Above the water line the beach was fine and you could walk along it for a great distance in either direction.  The food was excellent.  We ate at both the Steak Restaurant and the Mexican Specialty Restaurant in addition to the breakfast and lunch buffets.  The filet I had at the Steak Restaurant was tender and cooked to perfection.  The wine that was served was also quite good.  Our first night at the Iberostar we all went to the show.  Instead of a dance revue by professionals we were treated to the "Ideal Couple" game show.  Four newlywed couples competed in all sorts for silly games.  It was hilarious.  I laughed so hard my stomach hurt the next day.  If you're there and they have this, go, you won't be disappointed.  Children 12 and under stay free at the Iberostar.  This resort is not for people who want to go into town everyday.  The taxi ride is $25 each way.  If you plan to just go into town once, or not at all, then the seclusion and excellence service make the Iberostar a great choice.   Continued  Photos
