Snow Shoeing

One afternoon we decided to try snow shoeing.  We signed up with Cougar Mountain, which had an office across the street from the hotel.  The drove us out to their base camp area north of Whistler.  Once there we were outfitted with boots and snow shoes.  Since we were the only ones who had signed up we had two guides all to ourselves.  They lead us into the woods, across a small creek and finally out to a clearing that was once a gravel pit.  It was very easy though it kind of felt like you had your feet in card board boxes.  The guides knew all kinds of neat stuff about the trees and the forest.  If you haven't tried this I'd recommend it as a way to gives your legs a break during a week long trip.

Snow Mobile Rides

Golf

In the summer time golfers take over Whistler.  There are three courses in the area.

Fishing

Warm weather also brings the chance for some great fishing.  Cougar Mountain had an album in their office with plenty of big fish and happy faces.

Getting There

The town of Whistler is 75 miles north of Vancouver, British Columbia.  If you're lucky enough to live nearby you can just head up the scenic Sea to Sky Highway.  If you're like the rest of us you fly into Vancouver and then take a motorcoach.  I say take a motorcoach because you don't need a car in Whistler and nearly every hotel charges for parking.  The ride over the Lion's Gate bridge, past the Burret Inlet and along the Howe Sound is quite beautiful be sure to sit on the west side of the bus to make the most of it.

Getting Around

Once in Whistler you can reach nearly every location walking (especially in the Main Village).  Those places that are too far to walk to can be accessed using the local bus.  From our base at the Delta Whistler Village Suites, the Marketplace and the Whistler base were a ten minute walk away.  There are plenty of pedestrian only walk-ways so, you don't have to worry about getting dodging cars and snowplows while carrying your skis.   Photos
